FiveM Server Rules Explained: The Complete Guide

Every FiveM roleplay server has rules designed to ensure fair and enjoyable gameplay for everyone. Understanding these rules is crucial before joining any server. This guide explains the most common rules you'll encounter.

Core Roleplay Rules

1. No Random Deathmatch (RDM)

RDM is killing or attacking another player without any roleplay justification. Before engaging in combat, there must be a clear in-character reason and adequate roleplay buildup. Examples of RDM:

  • Shooting someone you've never interacted with
  • Killing someone during a traffic stop without reason
  • Attacking random players for no RP purpose

2. No Vehicle Deathmatch (VDM)

VDM is using vehicles as weapons to harm other players. Ramming into players, running them over, or using vehicles in combat without proper roleplay is strictly prohibited.

3. No Powergaming

Powergaming is forcing actions on other players without giving them a chance to respond. Examples:

  • Claiming you shot someone when they weren't there
  • Refusing to accept that you've been injured
  • Using OOC (out-of-character) knowledge in RP

4. No Metagaming

Metagaming is using information your character wouldn't know. Examples:

  • Using Discord to tell friends about police locations
  • Reacting to information you only know from streamers
  • Using real-world knowledge that your character wouldn't have

Character Rules

  • Realistic Names: Your character must have a realistic name (no "xXSlayerXx").
  • New Life Rule (NLR): When your character dies, you forget everything that led to your death.
  • Character Continuity: Your character must have consistent behavior and backstory.

Communication Rules

  • Respect OOC Chat: Out-of-character communication should be minimal and respectful.
  • No Harassment: Real-world harassment is never tolerated.
  • English (or Server Language): Use the server's primary language in public channels.

Consequences

Rule violations typically result in warnings, temporary bans, or permanent bans depending on severity. Most servers have an appeal process for unfair punishments. Always read the specific server's rules before joining.
